Moving Through the Kosas
The kosas, or sheaths, provide a model for viewing our experience, facilitating the journey inward. We will use discussion, asana, pranayama, and chanting to deepen our understanding of the various layers of our being, penetrating from body, to breath, to mind and beyond. We will look at the correspondences between the sheaths, the five elements and the five sensory organs.
Earth, Water, Fire
Saturday 9:00-11:30
In the morning session we will focus on the first three sheaths: the anatomical layer, the physiological layer, and the mental/emotional layer. We will use a variety of postures including standing poses, inversions, and backbends, to explore the first three sheaths.
Air, Space
Saturday 1:00-4:00
The afternoon session will take us into the subtleties of the intellectual/intuitive sheath and the blissful sheath of the soul. We will explore twists, forward extensions, reclining postures, pranayama and chanting to experience these deeper layers of ourselves.
