Taught by Mary over Zoom. This workshop is a virtual food drive for Just Food, so instead of paying the Yoga Center, please make a donation in any amount.
Supta Virasana (reclining hero) is a wonderful pose for opening the front body. It addresses expanding the quadriceps, the psoas muscles, the diaphragm, and the upper chest. As part of your regular routine, it makes your breathing easier and combats the hunch we get at our desks and over our phones.
It’s also a pose that many people find difficult, and therefore don’t do at home.
In this workshop we will warm up with preparatory poses. Then we will set up in a comfortable fully supported pose and work down to a more challenging version. We will only do the one-legged version, which is easier on your low back but which provides the same benefit as the two-legged version. I've written up a blog post that shows more or less what we'll do.
Requirements
This workshop is for people who have at least beginner experience with yoga. If you have serious knee or ankle pain or injury, this workshop is NOT for you.
You will need:
a yoga mat
at least three blankets or equivalent (preferably more)
a bolster or equivalent
two yoga blocks (preferably the fat ones)
a folding chair (preferably one with no front rung).
This workshop is FREE! We’re making this a virtual food drive for Just Food, our local food pantry, so please make a donation in any amount. We would appreciate it greatly if you would include “Yoga Center of Lawrence” in the comments section.
