Welcome Back, Karen!
Karen Allgire, MFA, RYT, CIYT, is an Intermediate Junior III Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. She has been teaching yoga since 1998 and has made four trips to India to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.
Karen’s teaching and practice have been profoundly influenced by Mary Dunn, and she continues to study with Dean and Rebecca Lerner and other senior Iyengar teachers including Laurie Blakeney and Manouso Manos. Karen is a Certified Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer under the tutelage of senior Iyengar teacher Elise Miller. Study of Sanskrit and chanting with Leslie Freyberg have been a special area of engagement and enjoyment.
Karen specializes in blending anatomy, imagery and philosophy to nurture transformation in our yogic practices and our lives.

Friday, January 12 - Easy Neck and Shoulders
6:00 – 8:30 pm
Iyengar Yoga offers numerous adapted asana techniques to bring balance, comfort and mobility to the neck and shoulders. Learn to release chronic tension from these areas and discover new possibilities for ease and freedom.
Saturday January 13 - Action, Reflection and Devotion
Our theme for this day is kriya yoga or the acts of yoga – burning zeal in practice, study of the self through reflection, and surrender to the divine, devotion. These principles will guides us as we explore asana, pranayama and chanting to guide the journey inward.
9:00 – 11:30 am
The morning session will include standing poses and inversions as we explore the three aspects of consciousness (citta) and the five afflictions (klesas).
1:00- 4:00 pm
The afternoon session will include deep work on opening the hips, restorative postures and pranayama, as we consider the various ways to still the consciousness given in the Yoga Sutras I:32-39.
Sunday, January 14 - Creating Space through Backbends
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
BKS Iyengar called backbends “the elixir of life.” These challenging yet exhilarating poses are available to all students by learning basics stages of poses and creative uses of props. Experience the joyful freedom of bending backwards!
